Ventient Energy

Starlink Business – Fully Managed Connectivity

Ventient Energy

Ventient Energy is a dynamic, pan-European renewable energy business and is one of the leading generators of renewable energy in Europe.

Their portfolio has grown quickly since their inception in 2017, and they currently own and operate renewable assets in Belgium, France, Germany, Portugal, Spain, and the UK, with a total installed capacity of 2.8GW. As a business, they focus on sustainable growth that provides long-term returns to those who invest their future in Ventient’s vision – generating renewable energy to secure the future of the people and the planet.

The Challenge

Ventient Energy’s remote wind farms are often too far away from fibre exchanges, with most operating using 4G or ADSL to connect their substations. However, in many cases, this is not sufficient, particularly in the most remote and rural environments with poor coverage.

This is a common challenge on many energy projects, where the deployment of fibre would require excessive groundworks and cause significant project delays.

Ventient therefore required a solution that could be deployed quickly, with enough speed and bandwidth to support the following on six key projects, these being Novar Wind Farm, Farr Wind Farm, Causeymire Wind Farm, Bryn titli, Beinn Ghlas, A’Church:

  • Project-wide employee communication
  • Video conferencing
  • Real-time data transmission
  • Enhanced remote monitoring
  • IoT integration

The Solution

Clarus engineers conducted surveys of all sites, analysing the best location and positioning for the antennas. This ensured efficient and seamless deployments.

We integrated Starlink with Ventient’s existing networking equipment on each site, providing robust, reliable satellite connectivity, something that was not possible before in these locations.

This solution features:

  • Service availability of ≥99%
  • Low latency performance – just 20-40ms
  • High throughput, fibre-like speeds of up to 350mbps download / 40mbps upload
  • Rapid installation and easy maintenance
  • No data caps

The Results

With a higher gain antenna, additional throughput allocation, and better extreme weather performance, Starlink helps ensure bandwidth for critical operations 24/7.

✓ High-speed, low-latency internet connectivity on each site
✓ Internet speeds far outperform 4G and ADSL speeds
✓ Improved employee health and safety
✓ Improved productivity with better communication between project sites and head office
✓ Real-time data analytics, enabling proactive maintenance and reduced costs
