Mobile Connectivity Improvement Project

Arcadis - EightyFen, London

Arcadis, the world’s leading company delivering sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets, are moving into the new EightyFen development in central London. EightyFen is a mixed use development at 78-86 Fenchurch Street, 1 and 1A Carlisle Avenue and 1-7 Northumberland Alley, and Arcadis will be moving into the 5th and 6th floors covering 40,000 sq ft.

EightyFen is a 14-storey landmark building for the City of London, and the project offers innovative design through the inclusion of six landscaped roof terraces on levels 10-14

EightyFen at 80 Fenchurch Street has been constructed to deliver BREEAM Excellent and Wired Score Platinum ratings and will benefit from the by-then newly operational Elizabeth Line (Crossrail) and Liverpool Street station.

The Challenge

Due to the materials used in construction, including low-E glass, the building suffers from poor mobile signal. The space has been designed more as a ‘collaboration hub’ than a traditional desk-based work environment, so a strong signal across all four networks is vital.

This led to a number of operational challenges, including communication with other offices, clients, partners and suppliers. With little to no mobile coverage, health and safety in the office was also a concern.

The Solution

Following an initial survey it was found that only O2, Vodafone and Three required improvement as the EE signal was strong. Boost Pro designed a passive DAS to improve the three networks across both floors.

The system comprised of two external antennas (internally mounted to reduce signal loss), six repeater units and six strategically located omni internal antennas to dissipate the signal.

Due to the aesthetically pleasing design of the building, we opted to use low profile antennae which were in keeping with its high specification finish.

This project leverages our licence-exempt Passive DAS Industrial Signal Booster. This product benefits from:

✓ 3G / 4G / LTE Voice and Data
✓ Multi-Carrier Support with Carrier Switching
✓ Indoor / Outdoor NEMA 4 Rated
✓ Network Safe

The Results

All targeted areas of the office now receive strong LTE voice and data coverage across all networks.

Arcadis staff can now easily communicate and collaborate with fellow employees, partners and clients.

The team also now benefits from health and safety, productivity and operational advantages of being able to use mobile devices on the move within the office.

Our mobile repeater products are licence-exempt and fully meets the regulatory requirements in the UK (Ofcom SI 2018/399) and Ireland (ComReg S.I.No.283 of 2018)
