Mobile Connectivity Improvement Project

VP Plc - MEP Hire, Rainham

Vp is a long established group which has evolved over a 60 year trading history. The Company was founded in 1954 and floated on the UK Stock Market in 1973 as Vibroplant plc.

In 2000, the Company exited its historically core general plant business to focus on higher-return specialist activities.

Since then the Group has developed a wide range of sector-leading, specialist rental businesses serving a diverse range of end markets in the UK and increasingly, internationally.

MEP Hire, part of the Vp group, provides mechanical and electrical press fittings and low level access products to the UK construction, fit out, mechanical and electrical markets.

The Challenge

For a number of years, the MEP Hire Rainham depot suffered from poor mobile phone signal on their corporate network, EE. A combination of poor external mobile signal and the materials used in construction have resulted in very poor indoor mobile coverage.

This is a very common problem within industrial buildings, due to the construction materials used (including steel, concrete, and Low-E glass) as well as often being located in rural areas and therefore far from the closest mobile masts.

This led to a number of operational challenges, including communication with other offices, suppliers, and customers. With little to no mobile coverage, health and safety in the facility was also a concern.

The Solution

Following a detailed survey and short consultation period, the Boost Pro engineers designed and deployed a passive DAS to improve the corporate network within the office and warehouse areas of the Rainham depot.

Four internal dome antennas were strategically installed throughout the depot ensuring all key areas were covered.

This project leverages our license-exempt Passive DAS Industrial Signal Booster. This product benefits from:

✓ 3G / 4G / LTE Voice and Data
✓ Multi-Carrier Support with Carrier Switching
✓ Indoor / Outdoor NEMA 4 Rated
✓ Network Safe

The Results

All areas of the office and warehouse spaces now receive full EE voice and data coverage

Employees can now easily communicate with all stakeholders, including other offices, suppliers, partners, and customers.

The team now benefits from health and safety, productivity, and operational advantages of being able to use mobile devices on the move within the offices.

Our products are license-exempt and fully comply with Ofcom’s UK Interface requirement 2102 (IR2102) (UK) and ComReg S.I.No.283 of 2018 (Ireland).
